Everyone is a bit different based on the experience they had in the org. The Thriver Program was created to reduce the amount of time spent in therapy. We have helped thousands of former Jehovah’s witnesses in their recovery. We assist ex jw clients by guiding them into the psychological archetypes. In an EX JW recovery service, an examination of the condition of each archetypes speeds up recovery significantly. Individuals raised in cults such as Jehovah's Witnesses, the Moonies, or Scientology can all benefit from archetype psychology. Below is a brief example of what this might look like for some.
1. The Persona:
• Normal Function: The Persona is the social mask we wear in different situations. It helps us navigate society and present ourselves in socially acceptable ways.
• Effect for ex jw’s: In a cult, the Persona may become rigid and highly controlled. Individuals might develop a facade that conforms strictly to the cult's expectations, hindering their authentic self-expression.
• Shadow Emotions: The shadow side may involve a fear of being authentic, leading to anxiety and feelings of inadequacy when not conforming to the cult's standards.
2. The Anima/Animus:
• Normal Function: The Anima/Animus represents the feminine side in males and the masculine side in females. It helps in integrating aspects of the opposite gender within oneself.
• Effect on the XJW: Cults often enforce strict gender roles. This can lead to a suppression of the Anima/Animus, limiting individuals' understanding and acceptance of their own gender diversity.
• Shadow Emotions: The shadow may manifest as deep-seated gender-related anxieties, potentially leading to issues in forming healthy relationships outside the cult.
3. The Shadow:
• Normal Function: The Shadow is the darker, unconscious side of the personality. Integrating the Shadow is crucial for personal growth.
• Effect in a ex jw recoverying: Cults typically suppress individuality and diversity of thought, forcing individuals to repress aspects of their personality deemed incompatible with the cult's ideology.
• Shadow Emotions: Repressed thoughts and desires may manifest as intense guilt, shame, or anxiety when confronted with ideas conflicting with the cult's teachings.
4. The Self:
• Normal Function: The Self is the center of the psyche, representing unity and wholeness. It integrates all aspects of the personality.
• Effect in former Jehovahs Witness recovery: Cults often dictate a rigid sense of identity, which may hinder the development of a balanced and integrated sense of self.
• Shadow Emotions: Individuals may struggle with feelings of emptiness or inner conflict, as the cult's prescribed identity clashes with their natural inclinations and desires.
5. The Hero:
• Normal Function: The Hero archetype embodies the individual's journey towards self-discovery and overcoming challenges.
• Effect in the Jehovahs Cult: Cults may exploit the Hero's quest, redirecting it towards the cult's goals. Individuals may find their heroic efforts misaligned with their authentic values.
• Shadow Emotions: A sense of betrayal and disillusionment may arise when individuals realize that their sacrifices and efforts were in service of an agenda contrary to their own well-being.
Individuals raised in cults like Jehovah's Witnesses, the Moonies, or Scientology may experience these archetypal distortions due to the controlling and manipulative nature of these organizations. The pervasive influence of the cult's ideology can lead to a skewed development of the psyche, affecting how individuals relate to themselves and others. A recovery service for such individuals would involve exploring and challenging these distorted archetypes, fostering self-awareness, and facilitating the integration of suppressed aspects of their personality. EXJW counseling services does this via pre-recorded material on the various archetypes, therapy sessions scheduled at appropriate levels and voxer text support with your therapist 24/7.
